Portside Inn Hakodate is a boutique mansion located in the historic port city of Hakodate, Japan, designed to revive youthful energy and culture within the city. Collaborating with Staple Inc., the creators of the acclaimed K5 Hotel in Tokyo, I served as the creative director and branding designer for this project, which sought to build a vibrant creative community in Hakodate.
The concept,
Salon de Inspiration, brings a sense of artistic nostalgia to life. The inn feels like stepping into the home of an old friend—an anonymous artist whose presence is felt in every corner. The interiors and branding were thoughtfully crafted to evoke a sense of intimacy and creativity, with every detail appearing to have been touched and shaped by the former owner.
This project aims to be more than just a place to stay; it’s a hub of inspiration and creativity, a place where guests and locals alike can gather, connect, and breathe new life into Hakodate’s cultural scene. Portside Inn Hakodate serves as both a retreat and a creative spark, embodying the vision of a community rooted in art and ideas.
